What Would You Do If…

I love “what-if” scenarios. I got the idea from this picture, which I found on Tumblr and unfortunately I don’t know where it came from before that…

Honk!

So you’re walking down the street, minding your own business, doing nothing wrong or really out-of-the-ordinary. Or maybe you are, but you’re just walking to the store to get a refreshment or something. Somebody drives by and honks and maybe yells out the window at you. “Nice ass!” Or even something a little more innocent like “Hey cutie!”.

Personally, if someone honks at me and doesn’t really give a reason for honking, my first reaction would be to shoot them the bird. Usually honking at someone is a negative reaction and an annoying one, so naturally my response would be something equally abrasive.

I have to agree with the image a little bit. My cousin and I were yelled at out of a car window while taking a walk around our old apartment complex. To be honest, the first time was pretty flattering. I had lost some weight after having Aiden and I was back to my old self, so it was nice to be acknowledged.

Then they drove by again. And again. The third time they did it, they slowed down to talk to us but we ignored them. Then we saw them turn around to come back a 4th time. Creepy shit! We were almost back to the apartment so we ran the rest of the way.

SO you see, its nice to be complimented by a stranger, but there are exceptions.

1.) Don’t over-do it. Once is enough.
2.) If you’re a much older man, don’t hit on a girl 1/4 your age, even if she is over 18. Its still gross.
3.) NO physical contact. Ass grabbing was never and will never be cool. Just ’cause we’re hot doesn’t make us a petting zoo.
4.) “Hey pretty lady.” is much more acceptable than “Nice tits.”. Use common sense.

What would you do, or rather, how would you feel in the situation described above?

Wow that is pretty stalkerish. I wish I had nice compliments from random passer-bys. I never hear ‘nice ass’ shouted by builders :(

Hahah. I’ve had creepy stalker things happen like that. Wow. It’s sad. I do appreciate a good compliment though.

Word. Not that anything offensive ever happens to me, but I still wholeheartedly agree. It’s disrespectful not complimentary.

Oddly enough, it’s usually East Asian dudes that compliment me. I’m a fairly average looking person I would say, so I guess to them I look like the “all-american girl” or something. That’s what I put it up to because I’m not really someone who gets compliments or much male attention otherwise. :P

Most men will give a compliment out of advancement; while they’re sincere in “appraisal” of your beauty, they aren’t complimenting you merely for the sake of it. Fewer guys, on the other hand, will do that – and I think those are the compliments that you can really appreciate, when there isn’t an ulterior motive behind ‘hey, your hair looks nice’, because that was said out of sincerity rather than sexual desire.

I agree about ass grabbing! That’s so disgusting and not even a turn on so I don’t even know why the guys do it when they think it’s going to make us like them when it’s only doing the opposite!

I remember there was a time when I found honking to be flattering, considering honking used to be a friendly gesture from men who found me attractive. Until one time when I was coming home from work and a guy honked at me, then pulled his car in front of my path as I’m walking across a 4 lane street and kept honking his horn. Not only was it annoying, but it kind of drained out other horns of incoming traffic coming my way. It almost got me hit by a car! Nowadays, guys just expect you to stop whenever they honk their horns. It isn’t so flattering anymore.

Unfortunately, when guys that I do not know touch me in any type of way, I become a bit violent. I don’t like to be touched by strangers and when I’m in clubs and my ass is grabbed, I’m usually thrown out for punching someone in the face.

I sometimes feel like such a… failure as a feminist, almost because I love getting the attention like that. A good ego boost can do wonders for a girl, even on a good day it can never hurt.

With the guy slowing down, I would have stopped as if I was going to talk to him, and then probably slapped him in the face. Or got his name, number and picture and make sure the whole internet knows about him.

I don’t like the honking but someone whistling after me is flattering. As long as it stays at that. Guys touching me inappropriately on the other hand is never ok. I had a fallout with a acquaintance which lasted for months because he jokingly grabbed my ass. If a friend jokingly had done that it would have been different but not someone I’ve met a few times at the pub!

I hate it. I don’t find it flattering whatsoever and it’s extremely unwelcome.

Aggressively letting some strange girl know that you find her sexually attractive is like walking into a bakery, stuffing your face with donuts and then telling the baker, “Wow, you’re a really great cook!” Yeah, it’s a compliment but it’s definitely not appreciated.

A lot of times guys think if they do it and stop then maybe they’d hook up with you. This to me seems creepy, it is like going up to a woman in a grocery store and hitting on her by saying she has a nice ass, it just seems creepy.
