WTF Happened This Week?–February 5th 2010
Starting today there is a new weekly thing here at AGB.com, just a Friday recap of WTF happened over the last 7 days. Mostly about what happened to me personally and stuff that happened elsewhere if I feel like talking about it. Like the little graphic up there? Isn’t she cute? Let’s give her a name!
Post a comment with a name idea for AGB’s new mascot! (“Miss Purple Flower Skull” up there.) I’ll pick the one from your comments that I like the best and comment your ideas on this post. I’ll keep the contest going on until next Friday when I do another WTF (hehe) and announce the winner. I’ll be tweeting with this post’s link so we can keep the contest going on all week and make sure plenty of people get a chance to put in a suggestion. Of course, you will always be credited as the one who named her. AGB’s first contest!
Of course, the new layout has been up since Sunday (I was tweeting about it back then). I was starting to get tired of the old one. I love pink but it gets a little tiresome after a while, especially looking at it everyday. I get bored so quickly with things like that. I mentioned that I kinda broke the “no serif font in titles” rule of web design and used the fancy old gothic looking awesome font that I love but was too chicken to use it in a layout. Well, I don’t care anymore and I’m glad. I love purple roses. When I worked at the greenhouse I had to have handled every kind of rose in existence (it felt like it anyway) and the purple ones smelled the best to me. I also had to incorporate skulls in there somewhere.
On the home front:
- Our car broke!! Hopefully it will be fixed by the beginning of next week. It was the gas filter and Jess couldn’t fix it himself because it was so rusted out.
- Aiden is getting crazier by the day. He’s nearing the “terrible twos” but he might as well already be there. The bright side is that he’s also more affectionate than he was before. He’s all about giving out hugs, maybe to keep us from getting too mad at him. But either way I guess I won’t complain.
- I got a new printer/scanner/copier/toaster oven (j/k) contraption! Its a smart little thing. It will help me with starting my jewelry business. Oh about that–we didn’t get quite as much with our tax return as we thought we would, so I’ll really have to start out bare bones with the business. Shoe string budgeting with it, but I can make it work.
- I also got re-addicted to playing The Sims 3… with the money cheat! The way I see it, why worry about money in a video game when we have to do that in real life? You play games to escape real life and do whatever you want!
Other stuff
- Be watching for a give-away sometime next week. I was on another business endeavor last spring where I was going to try to start a cosmetics business. I only ever made one product because I didn’t have much start-up capital, plus it costs more to make makeup and its harder to get people to buy than say, jewelry. I have 30+ pots and tubes of lip balm made of natural ingredients in my cabinet and they need homes. I’m thinking I’ll give away 3 pots (or tubes, you choose) to commentators at random.
- The only thing pop culture wise that really caught my eye this week was this…
Maybe its just the fact that I love her as an artist, but I think she looks fantastic here. I thought the giant geometric hat was a little unnecessary (you don’t wear a giant hat in an audience, its just rude! The guy behind her does not look pleased.) but I think she chose the right get-up to walk the red carpet in, especially her hair and makeup (sooo pretty!). I’m liking the radioactive banana yellow.
Mark the calendar kids, I just did my first commentary on a celebrity’s outfit. That rarely ever happens if at all. Its not the I don’t notice these things, I just hardly ever feel driven to blog about them.

I LOVE the new header. Then again, I love all things purple. Especially flowers! I’m sorry to hear about your car, I hope it gets up and running again soon. I feel like I’m a mom myself these days as I have to constantly wake up in the middle of the night to keep kitty from taking her cone off, burrowing under the dresser, give her medicine, take her to the litter box. I’m thinking of getting my tubes tied and adopting cats all my life instead of having kids… I remember your makeup line, the hemp lip balms? I thought they were rather good but making makeup can be expensive. I want to make berry balms… What kind of supplies will you be needing for the jewelry line?

@Ariel Grimm, Animals need mommys too! I got your pictures today of your kitty and the letter. I’m so glad she’s doing well.
I need all kinds of stuff. Chain, jump rings, beads of all kinds, polymer clay and wire. Later on I want to get some acrylic resin and mold putty.

Awesome about your jewelry business! I always wanted to start a business because I love planning, marketing and strategy stuff, but I can never think of anything to sell! LOL

“WTF Happened This Week?” = the most awesome title for a blog feature ever. I love it!
I did the same thing when I used to be addicted to the Sims. It just wasn’t fun without the money cheat! Mind, all I did with that game was build the houses. I could have cared less for the people and whatnot. XD How nice of me, eh?
I’m totally on board with the Gaga look too. Ordinarily, that would have been far from my thing, but with her… it’s just perfect. I love her.
Anyhow, good luck with the jewelry business! I hope you’ll keep us updated on it.

Congrats on starting the jewelry business! Even when you have to start from scratch, I KNOW you’ll be successful! It takes certain types of people to pull things of like that and YOU are one of them!

I’m diggin the new layout lady! I LOVE the font and I might even have to try to incorporate it into my next layout (which might come sooner than I thought). I’m sorry your car broke, I really hate cars for that reason, it seems they are always broken.
I look forward to seeing your jewelry, I have tons of stuff for jewelry making and I also have been wanting to start doing that. I have a lot on my plate right now, you’d think i’d eat some before putting more on…but no lol.

I love Lady GaGa but she is odd. I like odd things, but dare I say, she is TOO odd? Anyways, maybe you can call the mascot, Carrigan? I’m not sure why, but looking at the skull makes me think of Carrigan. I would actually love to buy some of your lip gloss so if you’d like to sell them, that would be great
