Vent Vent Vent & Unveilings

I’m getting tired with my current stream of income. Before you smack me with a 2-by-4 and tell me I should be grateful for being able to work from home, I’ll tell you why.

I have a list of titles I can pick to write about. Even though Demand Studios has a title suggestion form, you only get paid $5 for writing the ones you suggest. Boo on that. I would have to work 3x as much as I do now, so that’s out of the question. I love writing and I can tolerate writing mundane articles for eHow in my frumpy home clothes and getting paid for it (I only make what I would be making at a minimum wage job) but its not my bliss. Not writing how-to’s anyway…

I like to be in control. I like having control over my schedule and my income. That’s why working at the shit-hole factory wasn’t working for me anymore. The older I get, the shorter my patience becomes for things holding me down and preventing me from living the kind of life I want to live. Its simple really, I want to be my own boss. There are already plenty of things controlling you that you can’t help (the IRS wanting a piece of the action, for example) so I might as well figure out how to do my own thing.

I’m not going to hold this back any more, and I’m just going to tell you my big plans for this year (jinxing yourself is all in your head). I’m going to take a piece of our tax return money and buy the things I need to start my own jewelry line. My mom and I are planning on teaming up, with her making accessories like purses (she’s the sewing lady) and I would be making the jewelry. I’ve been taking down notes, researching and planning out designs. Its going to be a bit like Tarina Tarantino because her stuff fascinates me but with, of course, my own unique twist. Its going to be more affordable too. I hate feeling left out because I can’t buy a great necklace that I want. Her stuff is actually worth that much, but dammit. Plus I would have a blast making the stuff I see in my head.

I also want to see about getting a tattooing apprenticeship. I already have the artistic chops and the steady hand, so we’ll see. First I’m going to put together a portfolio of my drawings and start branching out more with the styles of art that I can draw.

Valentines Day kicks off the year of the Tiger and I plan on being more of a tiger this year and taking control of my (and my family’s) survival.

I think it’s great that you’re taking control of your life! It’s way too short to be spent doing things you really don’t want to do. I wish you the best of luck with both the jewellery and the tattooing. Both lines of work sound like a lot of fun!

I’m a writer too, and I totally feel you. Most of the paying work I find isn’t exactly thrilling either.

I can’t wait to see your jewelry and wish you the best of luck with everything!!

Well I can’t say that you should just swallow your pride, because I understand how stressful it can be writing these freelance and how-to articles (I haven’t found a freelance job though =/ I want to). I wish you luck on your goal to make a jewelry line with your mother and the tattoo apprenticeship. i was actually thinking about doing that, but I feel I wouldn’t make enough money to make it something steady for myself, and it would take too long. (i love tattoos though, I have 6). Anyways so yeah, I will try and be your first customer as well, so I can’t wait until your jewelry line starts up!! =]

I totally understand where you’re coming from. I wrote for Demand Studios and they hype it all up that they have all these professional writers. The articles are ridiculously mundane. (Hello, I wrote an article about how to make “your cat’s cage a castle”. WOOO!

Have you checked out About.com or RatRaceRebellion.com? I auditioned to do About, and made it down to the final two. But, you can make some good money!

If you make that jewelry style…Count me in as a customer!

@Alissa, I actually tried for About 6 months ago or so and they never got back to me, maybe I’ll try again soon. Yeah I hear they pay the best. I’ll try RatRaceRellion too thanks for the suggestion!

Yay, I am very excited for you:) I am really happy to see that you’re taking control of your life, and actually do something about what you want in life. There are so many people around the world who just sit on their couch and expect things to be handed to them. Kudos to you!

That’s wonderful that you have such a strong will to go for your goals. Very important. Half of achieving your dreams is actually putting yourself out there. So I wish you all the best! We’re all rootin’ for ya! :D

Yea that’s the problem with being creative you have to be extremely creative just to find a way to make a living in a creative way. lol. I struggled with this for a long time. Most jobs bored me and I like to be in control of what I spend my time doing. Sad thing is I analyzed over this for years. I am in school and if I don’t change my mind again I will try to become an art therapist which is a happy medium for me. It requires lot of schooling and not the best pay but I also loved art therapy as a kid and can see myself doing it. I also have a part time business on the side that I am expanding little by little but doesn’t pay the bills or anything. I used to sew but I gave up it awhile ago but I may pick it up again because I miss it and I thought about starting a jewelry line also but never got if off the ground. I still collect things like charms and I go to the thrift store for a lot of unique things for jewelery making hint hint. etsy.com & http://www.bigdoglittledog.net/store/ have a lot of cool charms to name a few. By this long comment you can obviously tell I like reading your blog hehe.
