“My Songs”
Do you have a song that you feel represents you somehow, like a “theme song” or songs that would be on the soundtrack of your life? Ones that you’ve loved for years that weren’t just a passing phase. I have favorite songs and I have “my” songs (slight difference). Example: Chop Suey! is my favorite song but it doesn’t really have to do with my life. I just like it a lot.
So here are “my” songs, in no particular order.
Beck–Loser
Sometimes you go through a period of time where you feel like a loser, or you have days where you don’t feel like a million bucks and you just want to be put out of your misery. It happens to everybody. The lyrics are so random, I’m not really sure what its supposed to mean. The randomness of life, how life doesn’t really make sense sometimes? Its also an upbeat song which makes me feel like you should embrace life’s craziness and develop a little… healthy insanity?
Queen–I Want To Break Free
This is the oddball of my songs, but I’ve always loved it. I’m not a big fan of ’80s pop but the music in this song is just epic. If my soul had a theme song this would be it. You can’t hear this song and not feel uplifted by the lyrics.
“I want to break free from your lies
You’re so self satisfied I don’t need you
I’ve got to break free
God knows God knows I want to break free”
The beginning of the music video to this song is pretty damn hilarious.
The White Stripes–I Fought Piranhas
The guitar in this song is hott, just like most of the songs The White Stripes did in their earlier days. Blues rock is just sexy. A good song for me to listen to when things are rough. Jack White’s voice hits the perfect tones that give you a sense of torment.
“Well you know what it’s like
I don’t got to tell you
who puts up a fight
walking out of hell now
when you fought piranhas
and you fought the cold
there’s nobody with you
and you’re all alone”
George Strait–Love Without End, Amen
Another oddball. I’m not big on country music but this song is so sweet. This song didn’t mean so much to me until after my son was born. I also like ol’ George’s smooth voice.
“When I became a father in the spring of ’81
There was no doubt that stubborn boy was just like my father’s son.
And when I thought my patience had been tested to the end,
I took my daddy’s secret and I passed it on to him.”
Do you have any songs that would go along to the soundtrack of your life? I’d love to know what they are.

“I Hate Everyone” – Get Set Go
Some stupid chick in the checkout line
Was paying for beer with nickels and dimes
And some old man who clipped coupons
Had argued whenever they wouldn’t take one
All I wanted to was buy some cigarettes
But I couldn’t take it anymore so I left
All the people on the street, I hate you all
And the people that I meet, I hate you all
And the people that I know, I hate you all
And the people that I don’t, I hate you all
Oh, I hate you all
“Killing Time” – Mozella
Put your pocketbooks away
My soul can’t be bought through the loss of one day
Cause you know that you are the same
As me when we move from your ideology
The situation is out of control
Some reach for their Bibles I reach for my soul
Cause you bleed red and so do I
Who’s to say that you’re wrong or to say that I’m right
“Grey Street” – Dave Matthews Band
There’s an emptiness inside her
And she’ll do anyrthing to fill it in
And though it’s red blood bleeding from her now
It’s more like cold blue ice in her heart
She feels like kicking out all the windows
And setting fire to this life
She could change everything about her
Using colors bold and bright
But all the colors mix together – to grey
“Best of What’s Around” – Dave Matthews Band
Hey my friend
It seems your eyes are troubled
Care to share your times with me
Would you say you’re feeling low and so
A good idea would be to get it off your mind
See, you and me
Have a better time than most can dream
Have it better than the best
And so can pull on through
Whatever tears at us
Whatever holds us down
And if nothing can be done
We’ll make the best of what’s around

I love Beck’s song Loser! I just love Beck’s music in general..all of it. He’s a very unique artist
Beautiful Disaster – 311
Beautiful disaster
Flyin’ down the street again
I tried to keep up
You wore me out and left me ate up
Now I wish you all the luck
You’re a butterfly in the wind without a care
A pretty train crash to me and I can’t care
I do I don’t whatever.
Swallow – Emilie Autumn
I will swallow
If it will help my sea level go down
But I’ll come back to haunt you if I drown
I will swallow
If it will help my sea level go down
I’ll take a deep deep breath
But I’ll come back to haunt you if I drown.
Hummer – Smashing Pumpkins
Faith lies in the ways of sin
I chased the charmed
But I don’t want them anymore
And in their eyes I was alive
A fool’s disguise
Take me away from you
Shame my tongue
Fat with promise all along
But when I woke up from that sleep
I was happier than I’d ever been
When you decide
That your life is a prize
Renew and rivive
It’s alright honey
It’s alright, yeah
Happiness will make you wonder
Will I feel OK?
It scares the disenchanted
Far away
Yeah I want something new
But what am I supposed to do about you
Yeah I love you, it’s true
Life’s a bummer
When you’re a hummer
Life’s a drag
Ask yourself a question
Anyone but me, I ain’t free
Do you feel love is real?

Some great songs. I love all Queen songs. Becks Loser is fantastic too. Hmm as for me, well lets see.
Avril Lavigne – Nobody’s Home
- When I was a teenager I went through a depression where I felt completely alone. This song was something I listened to often.
“What’s wrong, what’s wrong now?
Too many, too many problems.
Don’t know where she belongs, where she belongs.
She wants to go home, but nobody’s home.
I’s where she lies, broken inside.
With no place to go, no place to go to dry her eyes.
Broken inside.”
30 Seconds to Mars -The Kill
-The broken hearted first love song.
“I tried to be someone else
But nothing seemed to change
I know now, this is who I really am inside
Falling from myself
Falling for a chance
I know now, this is who I really am.”
Alexz Johnson -Let Me Fall
- This song reminds me of the journey to reach my dreams.
“Let me rise, let me fall
Let me breathe
I wanna lose control, I’m not afraid to lose it all
Let me break, let me crawl
Cause I’ll get back up again if you let me fall.”
U2 – Beautiful
-A song to listen to when life is down. It reminds me that the world itself is beauty at its best.
“You thought you’d found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace
It’s a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away”

Ah, I am sure I could list hundreds, but the first one that came to mind was “Another Heart Calls” by The All-American Rejects feat. The Pierces.

Once upon a time, I made myself a “soundtrack to my life”. It’s kind of funny, actually. I made it when I was l4 or something and listening to it now it’s pretty hilarious. You’ve inspired me to make a new one.

Do you think you could help me with Demand Studios? I’m not sure how to go about applying for them. Also, I must be stupid because I can’t figure out how to show my images from m posts in Feedburner.
