Friendship Stories
I wasn’t a popular kid or a social butterfly throughout school… but I couldn’t really give a rat’s junk. Why? Because I had some incredible friends. One or two amazing friends that will stand by you will always be worth so much more than a group of mediocre ones that will ditch you in a second.
I had a great friend while I was in middle school, her name was Lisa. We were more like sisters, only we didn’t fight like blood sisters often do. We could talk about anything for hours and hours and we had the same ridiculous sense of humor. We met in study hall in 7th grade when we were seated next to each other. I can’t remember what got us talking but we started passing notes (my favorite pastime back then). We were also in the same homeroom class.
We had other mutual friends in our class but as the school year wore on some people in the class decided they didn’t like Lisa. A couple of the boys started making fun of her because of her slight overbite and her long wavy hair, which I didn’t under understand because her hair was perfectly fine. She was really a nice girl, which was why she became such a target. Her “friends” came up with excuses as to why they couldn’t hang out with her anymore, when in reality they were spineless and didn’t want to get made fun of themselves. I enjoyed Lisa’s friendship so the thought never even crossed my mind that we should stop hanging out. I mean really, how shitty would that have been?? I dealt with the other kids’ crap but honestly they weren’t that bad to me. Maybe there was a hint of respect in there somewhere.
One day the taunting came to a head. The kid that was the meanest and picked on her the most crossed the line one day and the harassment got physical. He was 2 desks behind Lisa and was pushing the empty desk in front of him into the back of a her chair. She turned around and told him to stop a couple times but he would only respond by pushing harder. Then she snapped.
She spun around in her chair and hurled her text book at him. Luckily for him, she missed and it went sliding down the aisle between the rows of desks. She also screamed a few great obscenities at him before leaving the room in tears.
Everyone in the room sat there with their jaws on the floor, including the teacher. The teacher made the kid pick the book off the floor and hand it to her. She ended up having to pay for the book at the end of the year because when she threw it the binding was ripped completely off. She was glad that she did it though, because no one ever messed with her again after that.
8th grade was easier, but at the end of the year, tragedy struck. Lisa’s Mom passed away and she had to go to Florida to live with her real Dad. I saw her a few times after she moved when she came up to visit her half-sister, and we wrote letters back and forth for a while. But gradually and naturally the letters tapered off and her sister moved so she didn’t come back up to Ohio anymore.
Wait, this story has a happy ending! A couple years ago Lisa found me via Myspace and we’ve been in touch since then. She is in a relationship and has a little boy a year or so older than Aiden.
Tell me your friendship stories.

Wow. Kids can be so terrible, it’s no wonder that there are children who dread going to school everyday. Your friend was brave in the end though because most children allow the bullying to continue.
I had one best friend throughout elementary school and middle school. When we first met, I was having trouble adjusting to being in a new school, especially because every other student was predominantly white and I was of a mixed background so they did not make me feel very welcome. I met my best friend because she’d approached me in the school yard (she was actually the class bully) and she asked me if I was afraid of her. I told her no and she asked me if I could be her friend. lol It was so weird because from that day on we were inseparable until High School. The last time I saw her was shortly after my 18th birthday and she’d been working at a convenience store. I really do wish that I could contact her again.

Hi there, nice to meet you
Just wanted to drop you a line since it’s the first time I visited your site (got here through one of your comments on another blog and was curious haha). I loved your friendship story. It was so great of you to stand by your friend. That is a hard thing to do when your under peerpressure and such. Kids tend to stick with the majority most of the time, so you standing by your friend through it all, risking getting bullied yourself just made you an awesome person

I fucking love how your friend reacted like that in class — Although sometimes, reactions like that actually make it WORSE for the kid being teased. In this case though, it was pretty damn sweet.
I admit I was hoping the book was going to hit the boy, though. I was like ‘FUCK YES AND I HOPE HIS FUCKING TEETH FELL OUT THE LITTLE MOTHERFUCKER!’
I despise bullies, you see. Thankfully I was never in school as a child. I would’ve been one of the Lisa types, to be honest. I was in other little clubs and groups and things — Y’know, Girl Guides, swimming lessons at the YMCA, craft classes, stuff like that — And there was always kids who would tease and bully me about how I dressed/looked/talked/act/whatever. It wasn’t as bad as Lisa had it, though, but that’s probably only because the clubs I were in only met once a week — If I was constantly near the bullying kids every single day, I doubt it would’ve ended well.
Ugh, fuck society.
… I SO shouldn’t be returning comments when I’m this tired, BTW, LOL.

Aww wel I am glad you and Lisa talk again. It’s horrible what the kids did to her, it reminds me of my time in middle school and high school because I was a bit of a nerd and people just didn’t like me. I’m not sure why but yeah. It’s good that you were such a great friend to her while everyone else left her, I wish someone like you were my friend back then, would have been a lot more easier.

In my school if anyone did something like that the person who threw the book would have gotten in trouble, because they are the ones who made it turn violent. It sucks, because if the teacher didn’t see the verbal abuse then in their eyes it didn’t happen and the freakout was over dramatical.

That’s awful that Lisa had to go through all of that. And why didn’t the teacher tell that other shit kid to STOP what he was doing. God, with bullying it seems that some teachers are just indifferent. (One of the things I’m going to change when I get my own classroom). I am glad that you managed to get in touch with her again!! I hope that you guys stay friends for a long time!
